What is Tratak? Tratak is also called Candle Meditation, using a candle flame as the focus for meditation.

Tratak is a relaxing meditation technique, & with all meditations with continuous practice, you will witness an increase in your awareness of both yourself & the world about you. It is also a meditation, which can help with spiritual development, depending on intent. Hindu scriptures say that the practice of Tratak develops the faculties of greater intuition.

Tratak is beneficial in improving mental clarity, concentration, creativity & imagination. People of all ages will benefit, especially students who need to concentrate on their studies. Children in India are started with this meditation technique at an early age.

Some meditation methods are difficult to master in times of stress as your focus in on a non visual cue, but Tratak differs as your gaze at a focal point, a candle flame, (although it can be any image) that captures your sight. Concentration is the first stage of meditation; Tratak aids & enhances this single pointedness.

How does it work? The candle flame light is taken in by the eyes & is conducted to the lobes at the rear of the brain to the Pineal gland. The Pineal gland is located at the back of the head & feeds on light & heat energy, being a gland that is receptive to light, even though it is encased in bone. The Pineal gland is also known as the third eye & converts light into the electromagnetic energy responsible for the entire body's glandular system. Flooding the Pineal gland with light stimulates its development and functioning. Spiritually as well as creatively speaking this can lead to development & also to feelings of ‘bliss’.

A regular practice of Tratak can bring greater awareness of the visual realm, a relaxed state of mind, enhanced brain wave function, & a deeper knowledge of the Self.

Each lesson is one to one & half hours long. It is usual for 20 minutes of instruction & questions, 20 minutes of practice with a further 20 minutes for questions. As with all meditation lessons it can be broken down to cater for individual needs for those wishing guidance with their own existing candle meditation practice.

Appointments are based about teaching & mentoring, so start at the areas which you need instruction with, so as to not go over areas which your aware of.
