Phobias

What is a Phobia?
The word phobia is a polite word for fear. A subconscious reaction to an external trigger. Once a phobia has been triggered it brings to the sufferer an irrational & excessive fear of the object or situation. In themselves a Phobia occurs due to the subconscious need to protect as well as its inability to mature. Something scares you, so your mind notes that. Next time you come into contact with what has scared you, your mind says " hold on this scared you last time" so you view it with nervous eyes & maybe feel fear again, thus a Phobia is created.
Some Phobias stem from our own subconscious need for life & get out of context such as heights, others may seem harder to rationalise by the individual, such as snails, glitter etc. Symptoms of Phobias can arise through being in contact with the object or situation, or sometimes simply thinking about the feared object can lead to a response.
Common symptoms associated with phobias include:
* Dizziness
* Dry mouth
* Breathlessness
* Palpatations
* Nausea
* A lack of reality
* Fear of dying
These symptoms can be mild to a full scale anxiety attack.
A Phobia is a problem when its stops the individual living a balanced life, when people start to avoid certain events, situations, isolate themselves from anything that may even lead to a Phobic Response, leading to severe difficulties in daily life. Otherwise a bit of fear can be a healthy thing to have.
